Describe your business model (including type of company, products / services)

Simon H. Steiner, Hopfen, GmbH (SHS) is a 100% subsidiary of S. S. Steiner Inc., New York, USA. The company, which started as a small hop business founded in 1845, is now one of the world’s largest hop trading houses with its own hop farms and refining works. The success of the HOPSTEINER Group is above all based on the continuity of a family company now led by its sixth generation.

The HOPSTEINER Group was one of the first companies in the world to set up plants for the production of hop pellets and hop extracts in the USA and Germany. Established to supply the US-American market in 1885, S. S. Steiner, Inc., New York, is now the company’s headquarters.

The HOPSTEINER Group supplies an international list of customers that includes corporations as well as medium-sized and small companies worldwide. The Group has subsidiaries in all the major hop-growing regions to ensure high-quality processing and storage of the hops takes place locally and soon after harvesting.

In coordination with its headquarters in New York, Simon H. Steiner, Hopfen, GmbH is responsible for the marketing and processing activities from its headquarters in Mainburg, Germany. The company’s hop products are distributed globally in more than 140 countries. Our portfolio not only includes conventional products such as hop pellets and extracts but also a wide range of innovations such as various downstream products and hop oils. We are continually adding new and experimental hop varieties from our in-house breeding program to the list of the industry’s leading hop types.

This sustainability report refers to the reporting period 2017 to 2019 and covers the activities of Simon H. Steiner, Hopfen, GmbH as well as the Hallertauer Hopfenveredelungsgesellschaft mbH (HHV) hop processing works, which operates under the HOPSTEINER name.
