Describe your business model (including type of company, products / services)

d-fine GmbH is a European consulting firm with a focus on complex analytical issues. As of 2023, we have more than 1,500 employees whose science backgrounds enable them, with a high level of accountability, to find future-proof solutions that are implemented in the form of sustainable technologies. Thanks to this level of specialisation, d-fine enjoys a favourable position and was placed among the Top 10 management consulting firms in Germany in 2023.

In 2023, d-fine GmbH had subsidiaries in the UK (d-fine Ltd), Austria (d-fine Austria GmbH), Switzerland (d-fine AG), Sweden (d-fine AB), Italy (d-fine s.r.l.) and, in the same year, also set up a new subsidiary – d-fine B.V. – in the Netherlands.

As you would expect from a management consulting firm, d-fine does not make products in the usual sense. The actual ‘product’ is our employees’ expertise, which we provide to our clients as a service.

We cover everything from strategy & governance, methods & simulations and data & analytics to processes and technology. Current areas of focus include the implementation of regulatory requirements, digitalisation, data analysis, data management, contemporary data environments, risk management, the consumer banking & services sector and sustainability.

Our services are designed primarily for banks, insurance companies, asset managers, industrial companies, the energy industry, mobility service providers, the public sector and the healthcare industry. Examples of the services offered by d-fine include:
  • Implementation of new regulatory requirements to cover methods, processes and IT, including those stipulated by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) for decarbonisation in the energy sector, energy system modelling, while we can also ensure compliance with the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), the EU taxonomy for sustainable activities, the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) and the IFRS Accounting Standards
  • Creation of global data lakes and data lakehouses for efficient digital data processing
  • Automation of processes using BPM platforms
  • Use of artificial intelligence and LLMs for data analytics, data extraction and for communication
  • Implementation of modern data and risk management landscapes
  • Implementation of methods and process of sustainability management
  • Creation and implementation of financial supervision solutions
While the previous decade was defined by the introduction of regulatory requirements for banks, insurance companies, industrial businesses and asset managers, there has been a noticeable change in recent years. Because of its impact on business models, processes and information technology, the concept of ‘digital transformation’ is assuming an ever greater role. This can involve both major transformation processes that can take several years for our clients and smaller-scale, labour-intensive preliminary studies or pilot projects in the short term. In this context, a clear trend towards the use of artificial intelligence and cloud migration has emerged.

Sustainability is another topic that has become a new megatrend as far as many of our projects are concerned. We advise our clients on such matters as sustainable finance, sustainable investing, greenwashing, ESG (environment, social, governance) ratings, climate risk, CSRD and SFDR reporting.

Over the long term, d-fine will continue to capitalise on the trend of the ever-increasing demand for analytical and technological expertise from a single source and the extent to which we already possess this. We see our future assured in the form of the provision of our services to our clients and by means of the recruitment of young people with these extremely sought-after skills and backgrounds.

We have been certified as climate-neutral since 2019 and publicly committed to achieving net-zero targets under the Corporate Net-Zero Standard of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2021. We achieve climate neutrality through the acquisition of offsetting certificates. As of 2023, the certificates refer to CO2e neutrality, as our auditor has changed the designation. The purpose of the certification remains the same. In 2023, we also hired a full-time sustainability specialist for our internal sustainability team.

While preparing our sustainability reporting process in accordance with the German Sustainability Code (DNK), we aligned ourselves with the GRI SRS and used the EFFAS KPIs wherever appropriate to our business model. We also adhere to Germany’s National Action Plan, which serves to implement the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
